Japan is building the worlds biggest solar power plants. Big government subsidies are attracting big businesses. Japan suffered a big nuclear tragedy. As a result, in the years following the Japanese people lost their faith in Nuclear energy. This cleared the path for the creation of two of the worlds biggest solar power plants.
Japans biggest solar power plant has a Capacity of 230,000 KW
The first big Solar power plant in Japan had a capacity of 115,000 KW. Now imagine a plant that generates a capacity of 230,000 KW.
A 230,000KW facility is not only the largest in Japan and will supply 80,000 homes. It is in face one of the biggest in the world and a one of a kind facility.
GE is on the scene. Taking a majority stake in the power plant. This also puts them right in the middle of the growing photo voltaic energy industry.
GE’s entry into Japan’s solar power industry will give them a boost in sales of transmission equipment. Products that are designed to improve energy efficiency are a big part of the sales model. A big move for an industry dominated by domestic manufacturers.
GE produces 900,000KW of Solar power in eight states in the United States and Europe.
The power plant is expected to cost around $777 million. GE will pay between 12% and 25% percent of the cost.
Solar power and other renewable energy sources supply about 1% of Japan’s electricity. In the wake of the 2011 accident at the Fukushima nuclear power plant, the solar industry keeps growing.
The Japanese government is crafting a new energy strategy that envisions generating between 20 percent and 30 percent of the country’s electricity from renewable sources.
